CBD and nicotine are plant-derived compounds that have a calming effect on the body. Nicotine is obtained from tobacco plants while CBD is obtained from cannabis plants like hemp and marijuana.

Apart from being plant-derived and producing calming effects, CBD and nicotine are quite different from each other.

What Is CBD?

CBD is a cannabinoid derived from cannabis plants. The plants contain over a hundred cannabinoids with various therapeutic properties. CBD and THC are two cannabis-derived active cannabinoids that have various applications in medicine.

Although hemp and marijuana can be used as CBD sources, CBD products commonly available in the market are derived from hemp plants. Why is it so? The reason is the differences in the cannabinoid concentrations in hemp and marijuana. Hemp contains more CBD and minimal THC while marijuana has a higher THC concentration and less CBD. THC is an intoxicating compound and the government requires CBD products to have their THC percentages less than 0.3%.

CBD is known to offer various benefits like pain relief, better mood, inflammation relief, and improved sleep. The compound offers a feeling of calmness and helps you stay active during the day.

What Is Nicotine?

Nicotine is an alkaloid derived from tobacco plants. It is the core component of a conventional cigarette that contains about 2-3 mg nicotine each. It is a powerful stimulant that could lead to addiction because of its physical and behavioral effects.

Unlike CBD, nicotine is a toxic substance that has various side effects including nausea, dizziness, high blood pressure, headaches, and more. Regular nicotine use could cause sleep troubles and fatigue resulting from an interrupted sleep cycle.

The sudden dopamine rush that nicotine gives is what makes people addicted to it most of the time. Soon after a person smokes a cigarette, they feel happier for a moment because of the higher dopamine levels produced in the body. Their blood pressure, energy levels, and heart rate heighten at that moment.

Nicotine also affects insulin levels in one’s body. It puts pressure on the pancreas leading to lesser production of insulin. This results in elevated blood sugar levels in the person’s body.

Getting rid of nicotine addiction isn’t that easy because of the withdrawal symptoms associated with the same.

CBD works entirely differently from nicotine and does not lead to addiction. Moreover, constant use of nicotine takes a toll on the health of the users and causes various health issues.
