Cannabidiol has become mainstream and is available in many forms like oils, topical, tinctures, edibles, and drinks, etc. If you are considering CBD, you might not have thought of using it in the form of suppositories. If you are not familiar with suppositories, understand that it is a form of medication, that is inserted into the rectum. Read ahead to know more about CBD suppositories.

CBD Suppositories

The delivery method of suppositories involves inserting a rocket-shaped capsule in the rectum or vagina. CBD suppositories are comparatively new to the market and are used instead of the traditional dosing methods. With this method, the CBD reaches the bloodstream faster and offers stronger effects than the intake method like oral consumption.

Bioavailability Of CBD Suppositories

CBD is not well researched as it has been made legal only in the year 2018 and so scientific evidence supporting CBD suppositories is minimal. However, many proponents claim that this form of intake can lead to an increased absorption rate. The absorption rate of CBD oral consumption is less than 20% and that of vape CBD products is between 30% and 55%. The case of CBD suppositories is different. When you insert these suppositories into your body, the CBD in the suppositories will be absorbed by the mucous membranes, allowing the CBD to spread quickly into the bloodstream.

The bioavailability of CBD suppositories is high. This is because when you take CBD in the form of suppositories, you can bypass the liver and the CBD in the suppository directly reaches the bloodstream, thereby increasing the bioavailability.

Using A CBD Suppository

Manufacturers of CBD suppositories advise the users to store the suppository in the fridge before use as it needs to be firm before use. Before inserting a CBD suppository into your rectum, you need to lie down on your side and pull your knees to your chest. This position will allow easy insertion of the suppository. Insert it until it reaches a minimum of 1 inch deep in the rectum so that it will reach the inner anal sphincter.

You can clench the buttock’s muscles together for about four seconds to avoid slippage. After inserting the suppository, make sure to lie on your side for about 3 minutes. The fluid from the suppository will leak from the rectum for a few hours after inserting it. Therefore, it is recommended to use the suppository before bed.
